Society Rules   (Starting 2012)

After a match an average Stapleford score is worked out, using those players who scored 20 points or more.

Anyone scoring more than the average will be cut, depending on their handicap:
~ Div 1 (handicaps  0 -  9) will be cut by 0.2 for every point above the average.
~ Div 2 (handicaps 10 - 18) will be cut by 0.3 for every point above the average.
~ Div 3 (handicaps 19 - 28) will be cut by 0.4 for every point above the average.

Anyone scoring less than the average will have their handicap increased, depending on their handicap:
~ Div 1 (handicaps  0 -  9) will be increased by 0.4 for every point below the average.
~ Div 2 (handicaps 10 - 18) will be increased by 0.3 for every point below the average.
~ Div 3 (handicaps 19 - 28) will be increased by 0.2 for every point below the average.
(The Maximum handicap is 28)

Handicaps are rounded, so if you have a handicap of 15.5 for example, then you play off 16.
If you have a handicap of 15.4, then you play your next game off a handicap of 15.

In the event of a drawn winning score, countback will be applied as follows:

~ The person with the best score on the back 9 wins. If it is still a draw then;
~ The person with the best score on the last 6 holes wins. If it is still a draw then;
~ The person with the best score on the last 3 holes wins. If it is still a draw then;
~ The person with the best score on the 18th wins. If it is still a draw then;
~ The person with the lowest handicap wins. If it is still a draw then;
~ Toss a coin for the winner.

Golfers playing with the society for the first time cannot win the competition.
They can win the 'nearest the pin' and 'longest drive' challenges.
Their handicap will be assessed on the first appearance with the society.
They are then eligible to win the next competition, playing off the prescribed handicap.
